People Also Ask

The expanding question list on a Google results page. It is algorithmic, and your markup does not drive it.

Outdated advice attached · commonly mis-sold

What it means

Google generates these questions algorithmically from its own data about what people search. There is no markup that submits a question to it and no schema type that earns a place in it. Separately, FAQPage rich results were restricted to government and health domains in August 2023, so FAQ markup has produced nothing on an ordinary commercial page for three years either. Those two facts together are why the advice attached to this term is wrong on two counts rather than one.

Why it matters for an HVAC company

Because proposals still promise it. Several companies on our board list FAQ schema as the route into People Also Ask, which describes a mechanism that has never existed. It is a reliable signal that a page was written from an older playbook and not revisited since.

What would settle it

Search your target query and read the questions. Then check whether your pages answer them in plain language. That is the whole method, and it needs no markup at all.

A worked example

A contractor's agency adds FAQPage markup to twelve service pages, citing People Also Ask. Six months later nothing has changed there, which is the expected result. The questions in the box were already answerable by rewriting three paragraphs.

The limit on that

FAQPage rich results have been restricted to government and health domains since August 2023, so the markup buys nothing on a commercial page either.
